“Heal yourself, change your family tree.”
At Healing Legacy Counseling, we work with you to examine your life, your choices, and the family you have come from. Everyone has wounds that influence the way we think, act, and feel. You don’t have to “just deal with it” anymore, and the cycles of pain you’ve experienced can be changed. You can cultivate a more fulfilling future for yourself and—by extension—for the family, friends, and community you belong to.
Our work is rooted in a few basic tenets:
Context Matters
Our clinicians approach therapy from the lens of systems theory, which means exploring the interconnectedness of our mental, physical, and social health; our relationships at home, work, and in the community; our lived experiences and the culture we come from; and how all these factors interplay with the world we live in and inform our experiences.
Mental Health is Intergenerational
The building blocks of mental health are passed down across generations. This can happen through biology, behavior, culture, lived experiences, and belief systems. This means there are countless factors that went into making you who you are today. And it also means that the work you do to heal and grow now will serve not only your future self, but the next generation who follows you.
Trauma-Informed Care is Non-Negotiable
All of our therapists are trained to explore and honor your past experiences and how they have shaped you. We use evidence-based practices to help you heal, adapt, and grow.
Affirming and Inclusive
We are a minority-owned business, and we value the unique experiences of each of our clients. Our facility is wheelchair-accessible (bathroom too), LGBTQ+ welcoming, and minority validating. We offer services in person and via telehealth, so barriers like transportation, child-care, and travel-related anxiety don’t get in the way of your treatment. We validate your story and needs, and we recognize that everyone deserves to be heard and understood.
Goodness of Fit
Research and experience tell us that the relationship between therapist and client is a determining factor of the progress you’ll make. Some of our clinicians have more training in couples and family work, while others specialize in individual or group therapy. We treat clients of all ages, and certain clinicians are more skilled with different age groups. You can check out our therapists’ individual bios to learn more about their individual approach, perspective, and expertise, and our clinical director is happy to speak with you about what you’re looking for and which team member may be the best fit. Similarly, we keep our team small and prioritize team culture over number of clinicians. We meet weekly to support each other, learn from each other, and collaborate on cases, and believe that a well-cared for therapist with a good work-life balance is all the better equipped to serve their clients.
Our Office Space
Healing Legacy Counseling has a physical office space located in Hudson, Ohio. We are very close to Route 8, right off the Boston Mills exit. Each of our spaces are thoughtfully maintained to accommodate individual, couple, and family sessions as needed, with room in the lobby for parents, siblings, or loved ones to wait in comfort during your appointment.
While many clients opt to meet in person, all of our clinicians are happy to offer telehealth appointments if that option works better for your needs. Telehealth is provided via HIPPA-compliant video conferencing, and allows us to be flexible in the event that severe weather or unexpected issues with transportation or childcare threaten to disrupt your treatment schedule. Telehealth also allows us to serve clients across the state of Ohio, making care accessible regardless of where you live.
