Kids/Adolescents

My strengths are working with the kids with strong emotions like depression or anxiety, big ups and down, and those who struggle with parents. I have a background of working with kids who were partially hospitalized for mental health issues. When I work with kids, I see the best in them, even when they can’t. A lot of kids run away from their emotions, some even use substances to do that or they go to sleep to avoid problems, but I look for the part of them that still cares, gets excited about things, what they’re passionate about. I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help kids develop other coping skills besides avoidance to start interacting with the world again and to become their true self.

Couples

I’ve learned as a couples counselor that opposites attract, and sometimes the things that you loved about your partner seem to be the thing that divides you the most. It’s really common that one partner wants to talk about feelings and check in a lot and the other is more reserved and learning to open up. Oftentimes one (or both) partner’s family can be a source of stress too, and it puts pressure on the couple with negative influences. All this causes a lot of friction in the relationship, and you find yourself needing a couple’s counselor to help set you back on track and build each other up rather than tearing each other down. I teach couples how to grow, communicate, and open up to each other again, rebuilding trust.
